GIS is a commonly-used tool within SARA. This tool will be fully integrated into the finance and administration, operations, watershed management, planning and development, intergovernmental and community relations, and decision support/making functions within the authority. This will be accomplished through the implementation of Enterprise GIS database with all the relevant extensions and applications built on top of it and served through the network, intranet and internet. IT/GIS-Database is establishing and will be maintaining a comprehensive, up-to-date authority-wide, GIS database, data management, protection, and preservation plan, as a strategic resource for the authority, state, relevant agencies, organizations, and citizens. Enterprise GIS database will be readily accessible/usable throughout authority and will be fully integrated with the daily works/functions of the divisions and division personnel and will be made available to the public. The GIS database will be made available through the local networks, intranet and to the through the Internet with varying levels. SARA’s GIS will continue to evolve as technology changes.
GIS resources are coordinated among the various subdivisions, specifically information technology, engineering, utility operations, parks and recreation, environmental services, flood control infrastructure, flood plain management, real estate, project development, Lower Guadalupe supply project, water resources, public information, community relations, intergovernmental relations, project management. GIS at the desktop level will be made available, with training, to all management, supervisory, and division personnel.
Hardware and software purchased by IT/GIS are capable of developing, utilizing, manipulating and presenting the most up-to-date digital geospatial vector and raster data products that are maintained by San Antonio River Authority (SARA). Workstation GIS and desktop GIS are being configured as appropriate for the intended level of functionality.
