2002

Less than four years after the devastating 1998 flood, another flood event occurred in July 2002.

Medina Dam Flooding along the San Antonio River

Hard hit areas in the San Antonio River basin included virtually all the communities along the Medina and San Antonio Rivers. With the success of the 1998 FEMA Buyout, SARA received requests for assistance from Wilson County, Karnes County, Falls City, Goliad County and the City of Goliad. In addition, the Guadalupe—Blanco River Authority (GBRA) requested SARA’s expertise in Kendall County due to the flooding damage primarily in Comfort, Texas.

Town Hall Meeting

Immediately after the flood, SARA staff jumped into gear and conducted Town Hall meetings in each of the affected communities. Flood victims, some literally homeless, were the recipients of crucial information so they could make an informed decision regarding their homes.
