Completed Flood Control Projects

For almost 50 years, SARA has partnered with Bexar County and the City of San Antonio to provide project management and technical expertise on flood control projects and programs. During that period, the following projects have been completed:

• Olmos Dam
• Houston to Lexington
• Commerce to Houston
• 19th Street Dam
• San Juan Acequia/Asylum Creek
• Flood Gates

Partnering with Bexar County and the City of San Antonio, SARA has also served as project manager and local sponsor for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on numerous flood control projects, including:

• Arsenal Street Bridge and the Betterments III Project
• Espada Dam Acequia and Ditch
• Nueve Street Dam
• Five Points Area Construction
• San Antonio River and San Pedro Creek Tunnels
• Special Studies.

These projects reflect a wide range of flood control measures, including modifications to strengthen and improve operation of existing dams; bridge modifications to increase waterbodies’ carrying capacity; development of an underground marina to support river operations and provide maintenance and docking facilities for barges and patrol boats; and repair to an historic acequia and restoration of flow from the San Antonio River to it. During this time SARA and our partners have been highly recognized for their accomplishments.
