Groundwater Interaction

Groundwater Interaction & Recharge Planning

Groundwater Interaction Studies:

The River Authority has partnered with the USGS, Goliad County Groundwater Conservation District, and Evergreen Underground Water Conservation District to evaluate the surface water and groundwater interaction in the lower San Antonio River Basin.  The USGS has published the results of the study in a report titled Simulation of Streamflow, Evapotranspiration, and Groundwater Recharge in the Lower San Antonio River Watershed, South-Central Texas, 2000-2007.  The report describes the simulation of streamflow, ET, and groundwater recharge in the lower San Antonio River watershed using a Hydrological Simulation Program - Fortran (HSPF) model that was developed as part of the study.  The report number is 2010-5027 and is available upon request.

The River Authority is also partnering with USGS, Goliad County Groundwater Conservation District, Pecan Valley Groundwater Conservation District, Victoria County Groundwater Conservation District, and Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority to conduct a groundwater – surface water interaction study in the Coleto Creek watershed.   This study will enhance understanding of the hydrology of the upper section of the watershed and support water management decisions to ensure protection of the Evangeline Aquifer and surface water resources in the study area.
