Municipal Supply
SARA Water Systems—Wilson County
SARA owns and operates these water systems with:
- Creekwood which is a 78,000 gallons storage capacity
- Seven Oaks which is a 12,000 gallons storage capacity
- Mosswood which isa 20,000 gallons storage capacity
Goliad Water Supply Corporation
During the FY 2001-02 strategic planning process, SARA expanded its water resource management role to include the development and acquisition of water resources for communities voicing immediate water resource concerns.
In the fall of 2001, SARA contracted with the Goliad County Water Supply Corporation (GCWSC) to assist in the development of two water systems in rural Goliad County. As project manager of the first-ever centralized water supply systems in Berclair and Fannin, one of SARA’s initial responsibilities was working with the GCWSC and local community leaders to conduct outreach to property owners skeptical of government involvement in water service. Outreach to solicit a sufficient customer base was a prerequisite to the awarding of grant monies to fund construction.
SARA also served as project manager of engineering and construction on the water systems and fulfilled administrative responsibilities. SARA will continue to serve these communities after construction by assuming operations and maintenance, budgeting and finance, and customer service responsibilities associated with the water systems and their business operations.
Construction of the Berclair system was completed in July of 2003. There are currently 75 Berclair household members as customers of the Goliad WSC. Construction of the Fannin system was completed in July of 2004. There are currently 36 Fannin household members in the Goliad WSC.
The Goliad WSC currently has an application with the United States Department of Agriculture for Rural Development to build water systems in Charco, Weesatche, and La Bahia. The Goliad WSC is also pursuing a grant through the Texas Community Development Program for a water system in
