As part of the San Antonio River Authority’s (SARA) River Arts Fest celebration on Saturday, September 13, 2014, the local art community is invited to showcase their artwork or installation pieces made from natural materials, recycled or reused materials. Nature-related subjects, natural sciences and landscape artist are also welcome.
Details: This exhibit is designed to make people rethink our throw-away society by sharing the local community’s innovative and often surprising use of reused and recycled materials. Art involving nature-related or natural material subjects will express the artful essence of earth materials and humanity’s relationship to nature. To enhance SARA’s mission of sustaining and enriching life in the San Antonio River Watershed, artwork must be used to show the relationship between the urban environment to nature, water, conservation, pollution, sustainability and earth. Work submitted will be selected based on SARA’s mission, theme and how it addresses environment, sustainability and conservation.
Criteria for outdoor exhibition space at Confluence Park (Mission Reach):
Paintings, sculpture, mixed media creations, photographs, jewelry or any other art-related objects can be exhibited under a 10x10 white tent space at the event from 12:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. 90% of art should align with required theme: (Natural and recycle materials, nature-related and landscapes). There will be a $25.00 fee for vendors who wish to sell items. Fees may vary based on size and space requirements. For example: A 10x20 tent will be double the fee charge, etc.
- Fill out application form and submit 5-10 images of art work in slides, JPGs, PowerPoint, or 5x7 prints. Click here to view application.
- Include the type of works you’d like to display, an artist’s statement and any other background material regarding your submission.

If the application and guidelines are not complete, your application will not be considered.A submitted application does not guarantee acceptance. All applicants will go through a jury (panelist) process.
2014 Clean Rivers Program Steering Committee Meeting

PUBLIC MEETING NOTICE:
The San Antonio River Authority (SARA) will host a public meeting at the Barnhart Ranch and Nature Retreat located at 8212 FM 883, Berclair, Texas from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
SARA encourages citizen participation in and, support of, the San Antonio River Basin Clean Rivers Program, a partner of the Texas Clean Rivers Program (CRP).
The meeting agenda includes these topics and presentations:
- FY14/15 Work Plan & Allocation of Resources
- Activities of the SARA Environmental Investigation, Pollution Complaints, and Fish Kills Team
- San Antonio River Basin Plan for Nature-Based Park Resources
- Bacterial Source Tracking
- Open Discussion: addressing the 2015 Basin Highlights Report and any general water quality questions, concerns or comments.
The Texas Clean Rivers Act established a way for the citizens of Texas to participate in building the foundation for effective statewide watershed planning activities. Each CRP partner agency has established a steering committee to set priorities within its basin. These committees bring together the diverse interests in each basin and watershed. Steering committee participants include representatives from the public, government, industry, business, agriculture and environmental groups.

Trail Watch Volunteers - Orientation Session

The City of San Antonio Parks & Recreation Department is looking for all types of trail users (hikers, bikers, runners and walkers) to help spread the word about trail safety and etiquette along the city's trail systems. They are looking for volunteers age 18 and up who are friendly, outgoing and passionate about parks, are willing to commit to at least four hours of community service a month, and who have experience using park trails and a willingness to learn. Volunteers are encouraged to attend an orientation session that will cover an overview of the Trail Watch volunteer roles along with valuable information from Park Police about trail safety.

National Public Lands Day

On September 27, 2014, the San Antonio River Authority (SARA) and REI are partnering up to celebrate NPLD through a water-based river cleanup of the SASPAMCO Paddling Trail between the access points at the County Road 125 River Park and Helton-San Antonio River Nature Park. Registered volunteers will receive a T-shirt, breakfast snacks, and lunch at the takeout point. Only 100 spots available. To register for the event, visit REI's website.
SARA also invites you to come and celebrate the grand opening of the Helton-San Antonio River Nature Park and the completion of the 1.5 mile hike and bike trail with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. There will be free lunch provided for all who attend along with presentations from our partners about their unique outdoor programming and services including REI, Boys and Girls Club of Wilson County, Floresville Crossfit Center and many more. For those not wanting to participate in the NPLD paddling event, there will also be land-based stewardship opportunities at the park.
